Kyriakos Mitsotakis with farmers

Satisfied, except for certain points, following their meeting with the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the institutional agricultural bodies declare.

However, as they claimed, they brought to the attention of the prime minister the problems they are facing, they asked for the immediate payment of compensations, for a solution to the Lake Karla issue and they noted that cotton should not leave Thessaly while they also referred to the issues faced by the fishermen.

“For us, it is a red line for cotton to leave Thessaly”said following the end of the meeting the President of the Vamvakos Diaspora Organization, Efthymios Foteinos.

He said that the Dutch company in the master plan for Thessaly made a proposal regarding cotton and added that “we will respond with studies from the universities that cotton is not as water-bearing as they say and that it should remain in the plain.”

President of ETHEAS: The compensations to the Thessalian farmers should be paid immediately

For his part, the president of ETHEAS, Pavlos Satolias, requested that the compensations be paid immediately to the Thessalian farmers, in order to have liquidity in view of the new growing season.

He also asked for the immediate restoration of the damage to the fields and stood in Lake Karla which, as he pointed out, “no producer can cultivate” adding that “as long as it takes for the fields to become arable once more, they should have an income”.

Finally, the President of the Coastal Fisheries of Magnesia, Panagiotis Perakis, stated that during the meeting with the Prime Minister, it was requested that the receipts be sent to my data once a month and not every day as is the case until now.

Also, it was requested the abolition of the pretense fee and also the abolition of “traffic fees” on boats as he said.

Finally, he brought to the prime minister’s attention the problem with mammals faced by fishermen. “Some steps have been taken and slowly they told us that more will be done” he concluded
