The ultimate carnival party took place on the night of Friday, March 15th, ideally opening the three-day climax of the Patrinos Carnival and turning George I Square into a huge dance floor. Responsible is the internationally renowned Shantel, who with the excellent band of Bucovina Club Soundsystem roused the thousands of Patrinians and visitors who filled the square.
The large open event which lasted for 4 hours and was organized by the Municipality of Patreon and the KEDIP-Carnival of Patras shortly following the first appearance of the floats in the center of Patras, began with the dynamic dj set by dj Spery, a pioneer of Balkan music, with an important international career . She heated up the carnival thermometer with her wonderful selections, which combined the traditional sound of brass with the modern beats of the Electro World scene.
Before Koza Mostra took the stage, the crowd was welcomed by the Matron of the Patronus Carnival Maria Agouridis and Queen Georgia Sakka, while the President of KEDIP-Patra Carnival Hera Kouri greeted saying that with this event the three-day party begins, the three-day climax for the biggest Carnival of Greece, the Carnival of Patras. The event was attended by the Mayor of Patreon Kostas Peletidis among the audience.
Koza Mostra justified their reputation as one of the most representative ethnic-rock bands in Greece in the last decade. They married with dynamism and energy ska, punk and rock music with the style of Balkan folk-traditional music, such as rebetiko and Thracian-zonadika, stirring up the audience. They covered a lot of well-known hits, while they dedicated to the Mayor their excellent arrangement of “Leventis” by Mikis Theodorakis.
The baton was taken by the famous guest of the evening, Shantel, multi-awarded world music artist, based in Germany but with many travels around the world. He took off the huge audience creating an atmosphere of generalized celebration. Immovable with an explosive stage presence, spontaneity and unique fun, he set the stage for an unforgettable party in the square. The program of “Disco Partizani!” it included his greatest hits and a panorama of Balkan musicians and gypsy rhythms, performed with intense dancing mood, adored by the countless spectators.
The highlight was the highly dynamic version of “Bela Ciao” which caused excitement. Not a few times he mingled with the crowd, while at the end the concert turned into an absolute dance party following Shantel invited on stage many disguised members of the audience who accompanied him dancing to his last songs.
It was an event where the Balkan music from all the participating artists resonated in a special and familiar way for the youth and not only, inaugurating in the best way the first great carnival night of escalating fun in the last three days of the great celebration of Patras.
