Between the principal’s flight and the arrest, the schoolboy had tried to return to his class but the latter was confined, like the entire establishment. The establishment of 330 students was evacuated. It is located in a priority district of the city policy (QPV), aiming to compensate for the differences in standard of living with the rest of the territory. A medical-psychological unit is open this Saturday March 16 to welcome students who wish, indicates franceinfo .
“Young troublemaker”, “described as difficult”… The profile of the suspect
The 15-year-old suspect was taken into police custody in the followingnoon for the offenses of “death threats, violence with a weapon in a school establishment resulting in incapacity for less than eight days, introduction of a weapon into a school,” according to the prosecution.
Before his recent exclusion from the Edouard-Herriot college in Chenôve, the young suspect had already been excluded from another school.
Thierry Falconnet, PS mayor of Chenôve, described on BFMTV “a young troublemaker, but who was not on our radar”.
“For the moment, he has not provided any explanation of his motivations”indicated in a press release on Friday the public prosecutor in Dijon Olivier Caracotch, adding that the student, “described as difficult”did not present until now “only a criminal record for acts of willful damage”.
The terrorist qualification has not yet been accepted.
The principal “avoided the worst”, condemnation of the minister
On franceinfo the mayor of the City also welcomed “the courage and great composure of the establishment’s staff” and estimated that the main one, “by his attitude”had “avoided the worst”.
Minister of Education Nicole Belloubet “condemned with the greatest firmness” on “the threats suffered by the principal”assuring that she had it “personally assured of (her) support as well as that of (her) administration”.
“If the matter is in the hands of justice, I have asked that all light be shed on this revolting act. For all the threats that will be made once morest staff, I ask that the strongest sanctions be taken so that the school remains an inviolable sanctuary”added the minister.
“A new test for the teaching community”
“This is a new test for the teaching community. It is urgent to provide answers to the rise in violence and attacks once morest our educational establishments, which are taking place today within the confines of a college”he added.
The teaching staff were traumatized by the assassination of history professor Samuel Paty in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines) in 2020 and that of French professor Dominique Bernard stabbed to death in Arras in September.
A senatorial report from a commission of inquiry pointed out at the beginning of March the « terrible solitude » teachers in the face of threats and attacks to which they are subject, urging the State to initiate a “proactive approach” to help them.
