THE competition works and the consumer, for the first time, knows who is the cheapest provider and, by extension, the most advantageous option, sources point out Ministry of Environment and Energy regarding the electricity bills announced and effective from January 1.

As noted byelectricity prices in January are set at lower levels compared to 2023, when the horizontal state subsidies were still in force, with the result that the annual benefit for the consumer with the current data reaches up to 260 euros.

The same sources state that:

-According to the prices he announced the country’s largest provider, in the special green tariff the final billing price for consumption below 500 kWh is 0.13635 euros/kWh, when in the corresponding tariff in December 2023 the prices were 0.145 euros/kWh with subsidy and 0.17 euros/kWh without the subsidy. That is, the green tariff is more economical by 0.0336 euros if compared to the pre-subsidy price and by 0.00865 euros compared to the post-subsidy price. With these data, the monthly profit for the consumer is 16.825 euros (before subsidy) and 4.325 euros (following subsidy) and the annual (if these differences are maintained) 201.9 euros (before subsidy) and 51.9 euros (following subsidy), respectively, for consumption of 500 kWh per month.

In the blue tariff, the lowest price for consumption below 500 kWh is set (from 1.1.2024) at 0.149 euros/kWh, while in 2023 the prices were even more than double the corresponding, fixed tariff (e.g. January 2023: 0.54 euro euro/kWh and June 2023: 0.28 euro/kWh). It is noted that there was no subsidy in the fixed tariff. In any case, it is worth pointing out that, now, the prices on the blue tariffs are extremely competitive, and by extension also affordable for consumers.

In the yellow tariff, the charge price for consumption below 500 kWh is 0.12653 euros/kWh. In the corresponding floating tariff, in December 2023, the prices were 0.17 euro/kWh and 0.145 euro/kWh (before and following subsidy). It is more economical, that is, the yellow tariff by 0.04347 euros (before subsidy) and by 0.01847 euros (following subsidy). Therefore, the monthly profit for the consumer is 21.735 euros and 9.235 euros (before and following subsidy) and the annual profit (if these differences are maintained) is 260.82 euros and 110.82 euros (before and following subsidy), respectively, for consumption of 500 kWh per month.

In the special, green tariff, competition worked, with the majority of providers offering prices below €0.15/kWh and few to move to higher levels. The cheapest green tariff (for consumption below 500 kWh) was announced by PPC, with the charge price being 0.136 euros/kWh, followed by: ELINOIL with 0.14038 euros/kWh, HERON with 0.14052 euros/kWh, NRG with 0.14120 euros/kWh, PROTERGIA with 0.14260 euros/kWh, etc., while the three most expensive green tariffs include: OTE ESTATE (0.198 euros/kWh), ELPEDISON (0.17058 euros/kWh) and ZENITH (0.16947 euros/kWh).
