Towards a future escalation of the conflict? Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved “action plans” of the army with a view to an offensive in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, according to a press release sent to the press on Friday March 15. “The Israeli army is ready for the operational side and for the evacuation of the population”, according to the press release which gives no further details on this long-announced operation, once morest which the United States and the UN continue to warn. Rafah, located on the closed border with Egypt, welcomes, according to the UN, around one and a half million Palestinians who have fled the war. Follow our live stream.

A first boat bringing humanitarian aid has arrived. The ship from the NGO Open Arms, chartered to help the population starved by more than five months of war, reached the enclave. Its cargo of 200 tonnes of food began to be unloaded on the coast of the Palestinian territory, reported the spokesperson for the NGO World Central Kitchen, in charge of the operation.

Towards a hostage exchange. Israel will send a delegation to Qatar, as part of negotiations around an exchange of hostages held in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners, announced the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “An Israeli delegation will leave for Doha following [une réunion vendredi] of the security cabinet to discuss Israel’s position” on the conditions of a possible agreement with Hamas on the hostages, he said in a press release, without specifying when this delegation would fly to Doha.

At least 20 people were killed on the night of Thursday to Friday by shooting at an aid distribution point in the north of the Gaza Strip. The Hamas Ministry of Health claims that it is “Israeli fire”, the Israeli army declares for its part that “Armed Palestinians” fired into a crowd.

A new assessment. The Hamas Ministry of Health announced on Friday a new toll of 31,490 people killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war. Among them, 149 were killed in the last 24 hours, the ministry said in a statement, reporting a total of 73,439 injured since October 7. These figures, however, should be used with caution as they are impossible to confirm independently.
