The contestants from the three Chinese schools were able to naturally integrate Chinese into the real world of “cooking Chinese food”, truly achieving a new model of learning Chinese that is both educational and entertaining.
President Huang Guanqun of the New England Chinese Schools Association was invited to deliver a speech. He said that this was a very meaningful event and he hoped that the participating students would not be nervous and just practice as if they were at home. Director Pan Zhaorong of the Overseas Chinese Education Center was also invited to award certificates and bonuses to participants of the observation competition.

Pushi President Feng Wenluan also affirmed that this performance model that combines spoken Chinese and cultural experience can achieve practical Chinese learning and application in daily life.
Lu Yongyi, the drama competition planner of Pushi, first led the volunteers to set up the venue and moved in kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, microwaves, and washing machines made by Huang Zaiyu out of recyclable cartons. These props are so realistically made that it’s hard to put them down. The host Li Yuying also prepared a three-layer paper cake, pots, shovels, and food models, as if the kitchen had been moved to the scene.
Judge Professor Gao Xinyi highly praised the interaction on and off stage during his post-game comments. (Zhang Pei’er/The Epoch Times)
Judge Professor Gao Xinyi highly praised the interaction on stage and off stage during her post-game comments, and she also gave some tips. For example, what should I do if I have to walk forward with my back to the audience, but I can’t always turn my back to the audience? So I asked Li Yuying to demonstrate. She walked while talking, and then quickly turned around at the corner to face the audience, so that the sound would be clear. Lu Yongyi also demonstrated some life-oriented performances, because “plays are like life”.
Professor Gao also taught everyone to speak slowly so that the audience can hear clearly. If you forget your words, another actor can come to the rescue with a question and answer session. In fact, everyone is very nervous. Don’t be affected if you forget the words, just keep on performing.

The organizer also held a relaxed discussion following the meeting, allowing students and parents to share their preparation process and experiences, and put forward some suggestions. Some parents expressed their hope that there will be opportunities for parents and children to participate in the competition in the future.
Some parents said that in such activities, deeper connections between family members were established. Parents of students said: During the preparation process of the drama, the things in the script provided parents and children with more topics to chat regarding, promoted positive cultural exchanges among family members, and made the family environment more harmonious.

As for improving performance skills, Li Yuying suggested that parents take their children to experience it for themselves. For example, if the theme of this performance is cooking and food, then the children can try to cook with their parents, so that the actual performance will be smoother and more proficient.
Lu Yongyi said that drama performance is not a personal speech and does not require memorizing lines word for word. Dramatic performance is more regarding cooperation among peers, on-site improvisation and accumulation of experience. At the same time, she also pointed out that the script this time included words such as “There are no weak soldiers under a strong general”, “If there is a (father/mother), there must be a (son/daughter)”, “Nothing is difficult in the world, only those who are willing” etc. Idioms and proverbs are designed to allow children to accumulate and understand more regarding traditional Chinese culture during the preparation process. ◇
