No comeback for Pontus Jansson.
However, Jacob Ondrejka, Simon Olsson, Gustaf Nilsson and Anton Salétros are in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s first national team squad.
– I am not shocked, says Ondrejka to Sportbladet.
On Tuesday evening, Jacob Ondrejka, 21, received a call from Jon Dahl Tomasson, where the national team captain told him that the former Elfsborg and now Antwerp star would be selected for the A national team on Wednesday.
– It was good that he called so that you were a little prepared. It was a very good conversation.
After the comeback in Antwerp where he missed a large part of the fall due to a foot injury, Ondrejka, who usually plays left winger, has responded with success with five goals and two assists in the last nine league games in Belgium under Antwerp coach, former Dutch great Mark van Bommel .
“Tomasson goes all in”
– I’m not shocked that I’m in, but I was very happy at the same time. Now I’m going to do my thing in the A national team. I want to play, not sit and watch, says Ondrejka who can play on both sides but also played as an offensive central midfielder in Antwerp.
How was the conversation with Dahl Tomasson?
– Very good. I believe in his idea of offensive football. He will go all-in on it. I got some van Bommel vibes from him.
How do you mean?
– There are two former big players. They know what they want and really know what it means to play football and perform at this level, says Ondrejka to Sportbladet.
Revenge for Gustaf Nilsson
Another surprise was, following all, the selection of 197-centimeter-tall striker Gustaf Nilsson, 26, from Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise.
Nilsson has accounted for 12 goals and 6 assists for the Belgian league leaders in league and European play this season but played as recently as 1.5 years ago in the German third division following a rocky club journey following the breakthrough in Falkenberg in 2015.
– I have been playing well lately and understood if I was in the conversation. I have gained continuity in a good team. Tomasson called me this morning.
– Everyone who worked in football had figured me out. This selection is a little revenge for me, says Gustaf Nilsson to Sportbladet.
Jansson finally refused
Pontus Jansson quit the national team two and a half years ago. But when Jon Dahl Tomasson took over as national team captain, the Dane told me that he would call center back.
But the Malmö player decided to turn it down, in the end.
– We talked a few times and he felt it was an honor that I got in touch. He had some difficulty in making up his mind, but he decided not to join. He needs time to recharge his batteries, Tomasson says at the squad presentation.

Several debutants in Tomasson’s national team squad
It has been speculated whether any of the young players Roony Bardghji, Lucas Bergvall and Sebastian Nanasi would be included, but they are instead selected in the U21 squad.
– The squad may look completely different this summer. Anyone who has followed knows that I like to bring out young players, but in the end it’s regarding performance, says Tomasson.
Ken Sema, Viktor Claesson and Jesper Karlsson are injured and not included. Robin Quaison, who has been in Janne Andersson’s squad before, is not allowed to play in Al-Ettifaq and is therefore not selected by Tomasson.
Sweden faces Portugal away on March 21 and Albania at home on March 25.

Good or less good…
Good that Saletros gets the chance. He saved the Suns alone last season. K Nordfeldt is embarrassing that he is at all in a discussion, among the worst Swedish goalkeepers in the Allsvenskan. In with Widell-Zetterström instead. Robin Olsen – what kind of game does he have? A match of 20 type. Missing something like Bardghji. He should get the chance.

Exciting. Good that he invests in younger players unlike Janne

What we have to understand is that we don’t have any giant stars… especially not backwards…
Not going to shout boo or boo..
Let’s just see how it goes

As usual, the national team captain chooses safe cards and some young substitutes. No clear picture of how the team will play with this bunch.

Is Nordfeldt some kind of genius off the field? I cannot in my wildest imagination agree that he is the third best Swedish goalkeeper..
