New Egyptian Short Series for the Second Half of Ramadan: Updates and Highlights

Egyptian short series to be shown in the second half of Ramadan

While the first half of Ramadan witnesses the showing of 10 short series with 15 episodes, a new batch of short series is preparing to be shown in the second half of the month, as filming of some of them continues, and includes a number of senior actors and directors.

Among the short series that are being shown now are “Thresholds of Joy” by Yahya Al-Fakharani, “Apartment Works” by Hisham Majed and Asmaa Jalal, “Highest Viewing Rate” by Salma Abu Deif and Laila Zaher, “The Bliss of Avocato” by Mai Omar and Ahmed Zaher, and “Sila.” Rahm” by Iyad Nassar and Asma Abu Al-Yazid.

Meanwhile, actress Mervat Amin continues filming episodes of the series “Maleeha”, whose events revolve around a family of Palestinian origin residing in the city of Salloum, western Egypt, and with the escalation of tension in Libya, they are forced to return to Gaza. Participating in the starring role is Palestinian actress Cyrine Khas, along with singer Diab, Amir Al-Masry, and Ashraf Zaki. The teaser for the series included scenes of the displacement of Palestinians from their lands during the 2000 uprising that forced Maliha’s family to leave Gaza.

Actress Mervat Amin expressed her enthusiasm for the work, stressing that “most of the scenes in the series are external and in different places.” She said in statements to Asharq Al-Awsat that she was very excited regarding the story of the series and working with director Amr Arafa, and she hopes that the work will achieve success given the importance of the issue it raises.

Nelly Karim also films the events of the series “Strawberry” opposite Shaima Saif, Sedqi Sakhr, and Ahmed Fahim, in which she plays the role of a poor girl who succeeds in changing her life and achieves great wealth following becoming a “social media” celebrity. The series is written by Muhammad Suleiman Abdel Malek and directed by Muhammad Ali.

The artist, Mohamed Imam, posted on his Instagram account a poster for the “Cobra” series, in which he experiences short series for the first time, announcing the start of its showing on Ramadan 16 on the “Shahid” platform and the “MBC Egypt” channel. The series is written by Ahmed Mahmoud Abu Zeid, directed by Ahmed Shafiq, and co-starring Magdy Kamel, Mohamed Tharwat, Ahmed Fathi, and Donia Maher.

Through an exciting journey and stories inspired by the stories of “One Thousand and One Nights,” the events of the “Joder” series take place, starring the artist Yasser Jalal, in which he embodies the character of a simple fisherman whose life turns upside down following he discovers a great secret, and he goes through many conflicts. The series includes a large number of artists, including Lebanese Nour, Yasmine Rais, Tara Emad, Amr Abdel Galil, and Wafa Amer.

The artist Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz also joins the stars of the second half of Ramadan in the series “Khaled Nour and his son Nour Khaled,” which stars Chico, Sherif Ramzy and Aya Samaha. The series takes place in a comedic context through a coincidence that made a father and his son appear to be the same age together. The work was written by Ahmed Abdel Wahab and Karim Sami, and directed by Mohamed Amin.

DMC channel announced the showing of the series “Without Warning” in the second half of Ramadan, starring Aser Yassin and Aisha Bin Ahmed, regarding a couple going through a difficult experience following their child is diagnosed with leukemia. The series is written by Elmi Kafara and directed by Hani Khalifa.

The series “For Smart People Only” by Hamdi Al-Mirghani and Karim Afifi is also in the race for short episodes, and the series “And We Left Two” by Sherif Mounir and Rania Youssef will join the race, and it presents the story of a divorced woman who challenges society’s view of her. The series is written by Amani Al-Tunisi and directed by Tariq Refaat.

Egyptian art critic Ahmed Saad El-Din considered that “the return to short series allowed the screens to be enriched with new works during the second half of Ramadan, which was what happened before the thirty-episode drama took over.”

Saad El-Din told Asharq Al-Awsat, “There is a group of important series during the second half that are expected to give the Ramadan screen a state of renewal, through an accelerated rhythm without lengthening, which makes the audience enthusiastic regarding them, and these works are now witnessing demand from major stars.” He expects that “short series will dominate screens and platforms during the coming period.”
