WELCOME International Women’s Day, AS Watson signed the Women’s Empowerment Principles as a global movement under UN Women (UN Agency for Gender Equality and Empowerment) dedicated to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. The company claims it is the first health and beauty retailer to strengthen its commitment to developing workplaces, marketplaces and communities to encourage inclusivity and opportunities for women.

“At AS Watson, we are dedicated to empowering women to be more beautiful and confident. More than 80% of our 160 million members and more than 70% of our 130,000 colleagues are women. Our top priority is to inspire and support every woman to become her version of “We are also creating an inclusive work culture where women are respected and given equal opportunities for career growth,” said Malina Ngai, CEO of AS Watson (Asia & Europe).

AS Watson’s commitment to women’s empowerment is demonstrated through its partnership with Operation Smile in the Women in Medicine program. The program empowers women in the medical and healthcare fields by providing them with specialized educational and training opportunities to become global leaders in the fields of medicine, healthcare and surgery. The program trains 30 female plastic surgeons through women-specific surgical and educational programs and thousands of smiles will be returned each year. AS Watson is committed to sponsoring a total of 10,000 operations by 2030.

In line with the Inspire Inclusion theme on International Women’s Day, AS Watson and its 12 retail brands in 28 countries will launch a series of women’s empowerment activities, both for the community and their customers. Throughout the month, Watsons will actively engage the community through various activities. In Asia, Watsons will sponsor the YWCA’s ChariTea program in Hong Kong supporting independent women’s empowerment services for women with marital conflict, young mothers, and strengthening elderly services.

Watsons Thailand is holding a Green Ribbon campaign that encourages women to unleash their full potential and donates all sales proceeds to the Association for the Promotion of the Status of Woman to help women and children who experience mental and physical problems. Watsons Indonesia will partner with the LSPR Communication and Business Institute, beauty brand ESQA and Labore and Postinc, to promote women’s empowerment in the campus environment through class sessions with experts in womenpreneurship, public speaking, to skin health and exploration of vegan cosmetics.

In Europe, Superdrug will feature female-founded health and beauty brands across stores and host a series of programs to empower their peers, including photo competitions and podcasts. Drogas will host the Ladies’ School event, sharing skincare and makeup tips with female customers to inspire them to live life with confidence and beauty. The Perfume Shop has curated inspirational videos for its fellow women, thereby empowering them to be the best version of themselves. (RO/Z-2)
