Microsoft continues to improve the functions of its Paint image editing program, incorporating a size slider for the pencil, brush and eraser tools, with the aim of making it easier for users to select a custom size for these utilities.

The company founded by Bill Gates seeks to give a second life to this iconic software with the inclusion of options that offer an improved user experience, similar to that of more advanced image editing programs such as Photoshop.

In addition, the technology company is taking advantage of its dominant position in the artificial intelligence sector, adding features that allow it to collaborate with the powerful AI model called DALL-E, to generate diverse and realistic images from any text description from Paint.

The new capability allows users to precisely choose and enhance the size of drawing and erasing tools directly on the canvas.

In other words, with the slider you can choose from a wider range of volume options and preview their dimension. To use it you require:

  • Click any of the pencil, brush, or eraser tools.
  • A size slider will then appear on the left side of the canvas.
  • Tap and drag it along the slider to see different sizes.
  • Select the desired size to start drawing.

So far, access to this feature is limited to users enrolled in the Microsoft Insider Canary and Dev channels, with plans for a broader rollout following evaluating public feedback and response.

  • You can also use the “Hide Background” option to make the background completely transparent or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + H to quickly show/hide the background.

While to copy all the visible content in the various layers that facilitate image editing and composition, you must:

  • I selected an area using the selection tool and invoked the context menu.
  • You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + C. “Copy” (Ctrl + C) and it will copy the visible content of the current layer only.

Microsoft announced “Paint Cocreator”, the artificial intelligence tool with which you can create images based on text descriptions in the application. (Microsoft)

The version of Microsoft Paint for Windows 11 integrated a tool called Cocreator, which, based on simple instructions, is capable of providing a series of generated images that correspond to the request.

In addition, these can be adjusted through different artistic styles, such as charcoal, photorealism or anime, among others, allowing customization according to each person’s preferences. And if the result is not as expected, it is possible to modify the description and generate new options. To use it you require:

  • Open Paint and select the Cocreator icon located in the toolbar.
  • In the text box that appears, write a description of the image you want to create.
  • For example, you can write “a blue cat with a red hat” or “a landscape with mountains and a lake.” It is important to be as descriptive as possible to generate results that match the request.
  • After writing the text, choose an artistic style.
  • Finally, click on the Create button.
