Coco Gauff Defeats Elise Mertens in Indian Wells Round of 16

The American, 3rd in the world and seeded N.3, won 6-0, 6-2. The meeting lasted 1 hour and 06 minutes.

After eliminating the Japanese Naomi Osaka in the previous round, Mertens met another US Open winner. But the Belgian N.1 was powerless once morest Gauff in the first set, concluded in barely 25 minutes.

Gauff continued his momentum and made the break to lead 2-0 in the second set. Mertens broke immediately, winning her first game of the match, and returned to 2-2. Two new breaks from Gauff ended the game.
