These young people, aged 15 to 17, are not necessarily destined to become police officers. The objective is to introduce them to the profession in a new light. “On social networks, we are shown that they are evil. Really bad, very, very, that’s it. And so, when I came here, I saw them really nice. It wasn’t at all like the videos.“, indicates a young girl who came to discover the profession.
These exercises take on all the more meaning as ever more violent acts multiply in the streets of Brussels. But nothing to deter those who have decided to become police officers. “If I manage to join the police, I will be able to help as best I can and this kind of thing no longer happens”, “It’s part of the job, so I think you have to live with it and you just have to go for it .“, testify two young people.
While human resources are lacking and the police are struggling to recruit, these cadet training courses have all the makings of a seduction operation. “We know that it is not as obvious as that, that it is not easy to recruit motivated young people to join the police. We also know that exams and exam boards are not easy to pass“, estimates Karine Minnen, godmother of the Brussels police cadets.
On July 21, around fifty cadets from the Brussels police will have the honor of parading in front of King Philippe. Highlight of a very sporting training.
