Already interim general director since October 2023, she had been first director of the culture, varieties and society sector since 2016, also assuming responsibility for original productions intended for ICI ARTV and ICI EXPLORA since 2020.

Dany Meloul, senior vice-president of Radio-Canada, made the announcement of the appointment on Wednesday, saying that it had been confirmed following an exhaustive selection process conducted by an external firm.

Ms. Meloul herself became senior vice-president of French services at the public broadcaster earlier this year, following the departure of Michel Bissonnette. She has served as general manager since October 2019.

Ms. Meloul argued that Sophie Morasse stood out “by her ability to generate original and innovative projects”, and that “we owe her, among other things, for having kept the production sets open during the pandemic and numerous meetings -you to success”.

The press release indicates that Sophie Morasse has 30 years of experience in the television production sector, and that she was a director and producer before joining public broadcasters, Télé-Québec in 2014, then Radio-Canada.

“I fully intend to ensure that the public broadcaster continues to fulfill its role among Francophones across Canada and I am convinced that with the dedication and commitment of the teams who support me, we will achieve this,” said Sophie Morasse in the press release.
