Village Head’s Day – meeting in Sokółka

This is an opportunity to thank you for your work on behalf of the inhabitants of Polish villages. On March 11, we celebrate Village Head’s Day. Voivode Jacek Brzozowski met with the village heads of the Sokółka commune and the chairmen of the estate management boards to convey his best wishes and ensure openness to cooperation.

The meeting in Sokółka was organized by the mayor of the city, Ewa Kulikowska. Village heads, village heads and chairmen of estate management boards might listen to a lecture by the District Veterinarian, as well as representatives of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture and the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund.
Since 1990, the village head has been the executive body of an auxiliary unit of the commune, the village council, elected by the village meeting (lecision-making body). His activities are supported by the village council. The village head enjoys the legal protection afforded to public officials.
There are currently over 40,000 village heads in Poland (over 30 percent are women), including approximately 3,300 in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. Their duties include: representing the village outside, collecting agricultural and forest taxes, convening village meetings, together with the village council. taking care of the interests of the community.
