France Travail announced on Wednesday that it had been the target of a cyberattack, with a “risk of disclosure” of personal data “potentially” affecting 43 million people. According to the public operator (formerly Pôle emploi), “the database which would have been extracted illicitly contains the personal identification data of people currently registered, of people previously registered over the last twenty years as well as of people not registered on the list of job seekers but having a candidate space on francetravail.fr”.
The organization writes in its press release that it is therefore, “potentially”, “the personal data of 43 million people which have been exfiltrated”.
“Identity theft” at the origin of the cyberattack
The attack, which also concerned Cap emploi (organization in charge of job searches for disabled people) is “a priori not at all linked” with that which targeted several ministries since Sunday evening, France said. Work.
The operation began with “impersonation of Cap Emploi advisors”, continued the operator, following which France Travail “noticed suspicious requests”. The attack took place “between February 6 and March 5” and was detected “this week” by France Travail.
“No risk on compensation” for those exposed
The operator declares having “filed a complaint with the judicial authorities”. “A preliminary investigation was opened by the Paris Prosecutor’s Office and entrusted to the Cybercrime Brigade of the Paris Judicial Police Department, which set up a simplified complaint system for those affected », Specifies the press release.
France Travail adds that “taking into account the technical investigations carried out, the personal identification data exposed are as follows: first and last name, date of birth, Social Security number, France Travail identifier, email and postal addresses and telephone numbers”. The operator assures that there is “no risk on compensation”, passwords and banking details are not affected.
