Indonesian men’s singles match Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo in the semifinals of the 2024 French Open was stopped by world number two Chinese player Shi Yu Qi.

In the fourth-leg match at the Adidas Arena, Paris, France, this Sunday (10/3), Chico lost 19-21, 14-21.

Even though he lost, Chico was happy to be able to reach the top four of the Super 750 tournament. Moreover, he has recently been struggling with a hip injury.

“Shi Yu Qi played very well today in the front area so he was able to control the game. I tried to compete earlier and was able to take points several times, but especially at the end of the first game, the game was back under his control,” said Chico.

With Chico’s defeat, no Indonesian representatives advanced to the final. He was the only representative who was able to reach the semifinals.

In the men’s singles sector, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting lost in the round of 16 while defending champion Jonatan Christie was immediately eliminated in the first round.

Throughout the tournament, Chico eliminated another top player, namely Kodai Naraoka (Japan), in the round of 32. Fourth seed Anders Antonsen (Denmark) was defeated in the quarter-finals.

“I am happy with what I performed this week but not with the results of this match. This is an experience so that in the future I can do better,” he said.

“Certainly there are still many shortcomings that I have to improve on, but I am very grateful to be able to reach the semifinals following recently struggling with a hip injury,” added Chico. (Z-3)
