At the time, his presence went unnoticed. But, following research, François Vérove was unearthed from the archives of the show “Everybody wants to take his place” on France 2 by Marianne’s journalists, as reported by Le Soir.

It was in 2019 that the former gendarmerie officer arrived on the Nagui plateau and was quickly eliminated. His crimes, meanwhile, date back to the 1980s and will only be confessed in September 2021 in a letter that will be discovered following his suicide. In it, the former police officer will admit to being “a major criminal who committed unforgivable acts until the end of the 1990s”. Shocking news but quickly verified thanks to DNA fingerprints found at the crime scenes.

Although at the time, investigators were struggling to find the trace of the serial killer, this confession will make it possible to link him to three people. François Vérove had in fact killed and raped Cécile Bloch on May 5, 1986, then aged 11, then almost a year later, on April 29, 1987, Gilles Politi and Irmgard Mueller, aged 38 and 20 respectively, died in their turn.

Due to several scars on his face and acne, the man was nicknamed “the Pockmarked”. It is a journalist, Patricia Tourancheau, who will mention in her book “Le Grêlé: the killer was a cop” that the killer had appeared on the set of “Everyone wants to take his place”.
