Congolese athletes who took part in the XIII African Games in Accra 2024 (Ghana) demanded, Monday March 11, payment of their mission expenses before returning to Kinshasa.
They expressed their discontent during their interviews with the media in the Ghanaian capital.
These athletes also regret having been abandoned to their sad fate in the country of Kwame Nkrumah.
« We are in total regret because we arrived here on March 1st with many difficulties. And since we have been here, the ministry has authorized that the federation can make commitments so that we can compete because we had debts that the State did not pay. One day before our return to Kinshasa, we have nothing in hand and we are asked to leave the village and go to hotels where we are not known. So we need our money and if there is no money, we will not leave Accra », said the coach of the Leopards ladies karate, Nancy Tshiaba.
She also wonders how, without financial means, the delegation of Congolese athletes will leave the games village to make any trip:
“How to get to hotels, where no one knows us and then to the airport. How are we going to leave here to the airport and go to Kinshasa, how is this team going to leave the Kinshasa airport for the but when there are athletes who come from the provinces . And then we have schoolchildren among us.”
These Congolese ambassadors to the Accra Games demand to be paid personally and not via banks.
Speaking on the national channel, RTNC, the Minister of Sports, Claude François Kabulo Mwana Kabulo assured that these athletes will receive their mission expenses once they arrive in Kinshasa.
