CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia senior attacker Morgan Schwab earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Virginia senior defender Maggie Bostain was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Schwab set a Virginia single-game record with eight assists in a 20-5 win over No. 23 Richmond. She also eclipsed the Virginia career assist record of 129, previously held by Lindsay Sheehan, and now boasts 132 career assists. The Fairport, New York, native’s second assist once morest Notre Dame broke the career record that had stood at UVA for 38 years. Schwab led Virginia to a 12-10 win over No. 4 Notre Dame in South Bend recording a total of six points (two goals, four assists). With 34 assists on the season, Schwab currently leads NCAA Division I in the category and she was added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List as a part of the first round of additions.
Bostain scored a goal, caused four turnovers and picked up four draw controls and two ground balls in the Cavaliers’ 20-5 win over No. 23 Richmond. Later in the week, she picked up a ground ball and a draw control in a 12-10 win over No. 4 Notre Dame. The Richmond, Virginia, native played a key role in holding Richmond to just five goals, marking UVA’s lowest goals once morest in a single game since 2022. Bostain and company held a Notre Dame team that averaged 17.17 goals per game to just 10 in South Bend, Indiana. Led by Bostain, the Cavaliers’ defense held Richmond without a goal for 46:47 as a part of a 16-0 Cavalier scoring run that spanned all four quarters.
Six ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest IL Women/IWLCA poll, including five in the top 10, with Boston College (2), Syracuse (7), Notre Dame (8), North Carolina (9), and Virginia (10). Additionally, Clemson stands No. 20. The ACC has the most teams in the poll among all conferences.
