NEOS co-founder and media manager Veit Dengler will apply for a place on the pink list in the National Council election. He wanted to give “new impetus to the project,” as he explained in an interview with the “Kleine Zeitung” (online edition). The NEOS will decide on the list of candidates on April 20th following a three-stage process.

He was already a “lateral entrant” when he and Matthias Strolz decided twelve years ago that they wanted to change something in the country. “The NEOS came regarding from that,” says Dengler. He explained that he was “quite happy regarding” how the NEOS had developed: “Now I thought I’d get back on board and try to give the project new impetus.” After all, the country is “even more problematic” than it was twelve years ago.

The most important thing is not co-government, but the question of how the country can be changed. “This requires a clear handwriting,” said Dengler. The NEOS have established themselves and are part of the political landscape, which is “good,” said the NEOS co-founder: “But as an eight percent party that may grow to ten percent, you are simply not strong enough to really to be able to initiate big changes in the country. That’s why we now have to take the next upward curve.” And as a parliamentarian he would “like to be involved” in this.

There was already speculation regarding the media manager’s candidacy when the pink list for the EU elections was being drawn up. At the time, the 56-year-old explained that although he had “seriously considered running for office,” the “timing” wasn’t right.

The NEOS list creation for the National Council elections in the fall follows a three-stage process. Those interested must apply online for a place on the list by March 20th and submit a public area code. This will then be followed by an extended board before a final decision on the list is made at a general meeting on April 20th in Graz.
