Alkis Steas, the legendary presenter of the Patronus Carnival and the parades, whose familiar voice was inextricably linked with the great institution of Patras for 25 years (1974-1999, with only one year of interruption), returned to his natural place and at the right time dot.

On the morning of Saturday March 9, the day of the 25th anniversary of his death (9/3/1999), the eve of the completion of the Hidden Treasure Game 2024, the game he loved so much and participated in since the first year of its implementation and a few days before the climax of the events of Patras Carnival 2024, the President of KEDIP-Patra Carnival Hera Kouri unveiled a carnival bastaka in the form of the historical presenter. In George I Square, at the junction with Corinthou Street, near the Municipal Theater “Apollon”, who stood with his microphone and broadcast for ERT all these years the parades of the Patronos Carnival, conveying the pulse with his warm voice of the great celebration of Patras in every corner of Greece and of the diaspora Hellenism.

The unveiling event was attended by the Mayor of Patreon Kostas Peletidis, members of the Board of Directors. of KEDIP, the Advisory and Judging Committee of the Patrinos Carnival 2024, the head of the municipal faction “Spiral” Petros Psomas and the Director of KEDIP Sofia Chrysopoulou.

On the bastaka where Alkis Steas is standing with his microphone and the famous exhortation of “Good Luck”, is written the phrase he had said: “I want to die in Patras and let it be Carnival”. A few days before his death (21/2/1999) he had presented for the last time the parade of the Patronus Carnival. The bastaka is the work of Dimitris Ndzoumanis, Dimitris Vourtsis, son of the oldest creator of carnival floats Dimitris Vourtsis and Christina Koufakis and was created at the Carnival Workshop of the Municipality of Patreon.

Alkis Stea’s long and close relationship with Patras actually began in 1966, where he participated as a crew member in the 1st Hidden Treasure Game winning the 3rd prize. From the very next year, his connection with the game in the role of organizer and presenter was decisive.

The Municipality of Patreon declared him an honorary citizen in 1996, while since 2009 the “Alki Stea Day” has been established every year on March 9 in Patras, following a proposal by the 94 crew.
