Controversial internet personality and former kickboxer Andrew Tate was arrested in Romania on March 12, 2024, following a British arrest warrant.
Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested late Monday night on charges of sexual assault spanning 2012-15, which they “vehemently deny.” The warrant was issued by Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
“Brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate were forcibly arrested and held for 24 hours, served with a European Arrest Warrant by UK authorities. Among the charges, which relate to the period 2012-2015, sexual assault is also included,” says Andrew Tate’s representative in his statement.
According to protothema, Tate, his brother and two Romanians were prosecuted in June in Romania for human trafficking, rape and setting up a criminal organization aimed at the sexual exploitation of women.
The case has since been taken over by the Bucharest Court of First Instance, which must decide whether the trial can begin with the decision pending due to the workload of the Romanian courts.
The Bucharest Court is also due to decide on Friday whether to uphold the seizure of Tate’s assets imposed by Romanian prosecutors in early 2023.
