1. Design Award from the Brazilian House Museum
Located in São Paulo, the Museu da Casa Brasileira (MCB) is an institution that studies, preserves and exhibits items that explore the diversity of living, with emphasis on architectural and design solutions. Since 1986, MCB has organized the Design Award, one of the most prestigious on the subject. The objective, according to Miriam Lerner, former director of the institution, is to recognize the excellence of Brazilian design, value the work of professionals and encourage the growth of the area. Important names in national design, such as Marcelo Rosenbaum, known for leading the renovations of the “Lar doce lar” show on Rede Globo, have already been awarded. Some of the designers present in the Artsoul de Design collection have also been recognized by the award, such as twin sisters Luisa and Lilian Parrado, from Estúdio Parrado. His work explores creation based on sustainability, originality and delicacy, and in the 2018 and 2023 editions he received an honorable mention in the MCB Design Award. 2. Brazilian Design Award – Brasil Design Award
Organized by the Brazilian Association of Design Companies, ABEDESIGN, the Brazilian Design Award has been taking place since 2009, and aims to recognize the creative and innovative capacity of design in the national economy. In its last edition, the event had more than 20,000 participants and awarded more than 2,500 projects, becoming the biggest award in the area. There is space for different categories, such as product, graphic and environmental design. One of the highlights of 2023 was Greco Design, a company focused on graphic work that was awarded in the environmental design category for its work on signage at the Brumadinho Memorial, a space that remembers the victims of the dam collapse in 2019. The event takes place in the charming city of Bento Gonçalves, in Rio Grande do Sul, and since its creation in 1988, it has been an important platform to boost creativity and highlight talents in furniture design. Over time, the event grew, and today it covers several categories and provides recognition for both established professionals and new talents. In more recent editions, it has encouraged its participants to explore creativity in categories aligned with contemporary design thinking, such as the exploration of Brazilian identity and the use of new technologies. In the last edition, for example, the Pangea Lab studio, based in Rio de Janeiro, won one of the main awards with a creation that uses 3D printers to manufacture furniture.
4. Brazilian Object Award
The A CASA do Objeto Brasileiro Museum, based in São Paulo, has the mission of preserving, disseminating and valuing object manufacturing techniques, promoting a dialogue between ancestry, tradition and contemporaneity. To this end, it has a broad cultural program, made up of exhibitions, projects, courses, in addition to the Brazilian Objeto Prize. The latter, which takes place every two years, aims to recognize and value national creators, as highlighted by Renata Mellão, founder of the Museum. The Brazilian Objeto Award also stands out for bringing traditional production to the fore, with winners such as the ceramics from the Associação Mulheres Coralinas, from the City of Goiás, and the indigenous braided work created by inmates from the city of Luziânia, Goiás, both in 2023 In 2020, one of the highlights was designer Roberta Sá Faustini, present in the Artsoul design collection. His sustainable work, made from recyclable, recycled or reused materials, was recognized with an honorable mention. Roberta, in fact, stands out in several awards, such as the Salão Brasil Award, in which she came in 1st place in the 2020 edition.
5. Design for a Better World Award
The Design for a Better World Award, an initiative by Centro Brasil Design, aims to identify, group and reward innovative ideas, giving voice and visibility to the creators of impactful solutions. In this sense, the event seeks to celebrate objects that achieve economically viable, socially fair and environmentally correct solutions. The objective is to promote and disseminate these solutions so that they reach a wider audience and positively impact more people in different areas and applications. Quite diverse, the award celebrates everything from technology giants, such as the Electrolux and Itaú-Unibanco groups, to experimental projects, such as a cane designed for elderly people with low vision developed by students from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, winner of the last edition. Thanks to its focus on sustainable design, Design for a Better World has gained prominence, becoming one of the main events in the sector.
