Kensington Palace published the first official photo of Princess Kate on social media on Sunday, almost two months following her abdominal operation, in which she thanks the public for their support in a message on the occasion of Mother’s Day.

The princess, 42, whose husband Prince William is the heir to the British throne, has been recovering mainly at her home in Windsor, west London, since leaving hospital on January 29.

The photo shows the Princess of Wales sitting in a garden chair, dressed in jeans, a sweater and a dark jacket, smiling, surrounded by her three laughing children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

“Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the past two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day,” the Princess of Wales wrote, signing the message with a “C” for Catherine.

In a statement, the palace clarified that the photo was taken “in Windsor earlier this week” by Kate’s husband, Prince William.

The princess had not appeared in official photos since she was admitted to hospital on January 16 for surgery on her abdomen for which the reasons were unknown, although Kensington Palace stated that it was not cancer.

However, last week American media published a photo in which he was seen in a car near London.

At the time of her hospitalization, Kensington Palace stated that it would last 10 to 14 days, a relatively long stay that sparked numerous speculations in the British tabloids, in which the princess often makes the front pages.

Extremely popular in the United Kingdom, Catherine spent her convalescence at the family home in Windsor, west London. As reported on the day by Kensington Palace, the official residence of the Princes of Wales, Kate was not planning to fulfill an official commitment until following Easter, at the end of March. Her last public appearance was at the royal family’s Christmas service at Sandringham.

The princess will resume official commitments on June 8, when she will attend the birthday of King Charles II, as reported last week by the British Ministry of Defense. Kate will be at the so-called ‘Trooping the Colour’, the ceremonial parade that officially celebrates the birthday of the head of state of the United Kingdom in central London.

The lack of information regarding Kate, one of the most popular members of the royal family, contrasted with the decision of King Charles III to communicate, at the same time that the princess’s operation was announced, that she would undergo an intervention to treat a prostate problem

Unlike Charles, who was seen leaving the hospital – the same one where Catherine was operated on – alongside Queen Camilla, the princess was not seen the day she was discharged.

A few days later, Buckingham Palace reported that cancer was detected in the king’s surgery and that he would be on indefinite leave at his residence in Sandringham, eastern England, where the British royal family spends Christmas.

However, in recent weeks, the head of state has been photographed carrying out his official duties with the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and also when attending medical sessions to treat cancer, of which no details have been given.

When Princess Catherine’s operation was announced, which, according to the royals, was a success, the royal family stressed that the Prince of Wales would also take a few weeks to be with his wife and care for their three children.

In the absence of the king and the princes of Wales shortly following Kate’s operation, Camilla fulfilled several official commitments, although William has recently resumed his representation duties.

Last week William was absent for “personal reasons” from a religious service in Windsor for his late godfather, Constantine of Greece, and speculation regarding his wife’s condition soared once more.

Kensington Palace was quick to deny that his absence was due to a deterioration in Catherine, who, it reported, was continuing “well” in her recovery.

Kate and William have taken on more royal duties since their younger brother Prince Harry and his wife Meghan left for the United States in 2020, and the king’s brother Prince Andrew took a step back due to his friendship with the Convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
