PGA TOUR
Arnold Palmer Invitational 1/4. Ludvig Åberg makes his first competition since the shared 19th place in the Genesis Invitational on February 18, but it was an uneven first round at Bay Hill for the Swede. Åberg did make six birdies and hit a lot of nice shots, but there were also two double bogeys and three bogeys following, among other things, a visit to the water on hole eleven with a double as a result. He also made double on hole 15 following missing both the drive and the second shot on the wrong side of the fairway and green with difficult situations as a result. With a total of 73 strokes (+1), Åberg is tied for 49th place following the first round, seven strokes behind playing partner Shane Lowry from Ireland, a position he shares with, among others, Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy. Åberg lost just over 2.2 strokes once morest other players in the Approach to Green category, but gained almost 1.5 strokes once morest others on the greens. Norwegian Viktor Hovland is also making his first start since Los Angeles and Hovland moved into one under par following being three over par early in the round. World number one Scottie Scheffler opened with 70 strokes (-2) and shares 20th place. The Arnold Palmer Invitational is the fourth of a total of eight signature events during the year on the PGA Tour. The total prize pool is $20 million with the winner receiving $4 million.
Puerto Rico Open 1/4. As the Arnold Palmer Invitational has a limited starting field, the Puerto Rico Open is played at the same time with Henrik Norlander in the starting field. Norlander opened with a 71 (-1) and is tied for 64th place, six strokes behind Americans Scott Piercy and Joe Highsmith. Danish Rasmus Højgaard is tied for seventh following a round of 67 strokes (-5).
LPGA TOUR
Blue Bay LPGA 2/4. This week the Blue Bay LPGA is played just outside of Hangzhou in China. They have made it a bit into the second round and Anna Nordqvist has managed to play 36 holes in total with three under par. That means a tie for 13th place right now, five strokes behind leader Hye-Jin Choi of Taiwan. Frida Kinhult has also finished the second round and she shares 17th place at two under par following a fine round of 68 (-4) on Friday. Pernilla Lindberg (+2) is tied for 60th following five holes played, Linnea Ström (+3) is tied for 75th following four holes played on the second day, while Dani Holmqvist (+6) is tied for 92nd place.
DP WORLD TOUR
Jonsson Workwear Open 2/4. The second round has begun in the South African Edenvale outside Johannesburg and there are, as usual, many home players at the top. Right now, Oliver Bekker leads at ten under par, one stroke ahead of Englishman Jordan Smith. Jesper Svensson plays once more and he went around on 71 shots (-1) in the first round. Svensson shares 82nd place and starts his second round later in the day. The best Swede at the time of writing is Jens Dantorp, who started his second round with three birdies on the first four holes and Dantorp shares 42nd place at three under par, seven shots behind Bekker. Anton Karlsson (-1) shares 82nd place following four holes played on the second day, Björn Åkessson (par) is tied for 100th following eight holes played, while Adam Blommé and Jonas Blixt, both three over par, share 138th place just now.
KORN FERRY TOUR
Astara Chile Open 1/4. Tim Widing continues to deliver fine rounds at KFT and opened this week’s Chile Open with a 66 (-6) following seven birdies and a bogey. Widing shares seventh place following one round, two strokes behind leaders Rob Oppenheim and Thomas Walsh. Pontus Nyhom was five under par late in the round but two late bogeys meant a 69 stroke (-3) and a tie for 44th place.
