The last BL group match of this season was played on Thursday night Telekom Veszprém. The opponent was last year’s winner Magdeburg. A huge battle might be expected, since the one who gets the two points might go directly to the top eight. The hard-fought match proved to be true, the two teams went head-to-head at the beginning of the meeting. Although Magdeburg managed to go ahead with 3 goals in the middle of the half, Veszprém did not give up and clawed back at halftime. In the break Telekom Veszprém – SC Magdeburg 14:14.
The second half started as close as the first ended. Sometimes Veszprém, sometimes the Germans led, but following 10 minutes, neither team might break away. Magdeburg managed to take a two-goal lead in the 13th minute (19:21), but 3 minutes were enough for the Builders to lead by one. Turning to the 50th minute, the defending champion had the advantage, leading by two once more (22:24). Magdeburg led by three goals for the last five minutes, which Ilic’s team might not bring back. Final result Telekom Veszprém – SC Magdeburg 28:30.
Telekom Veszprém thus finished in third place in the group and did not make it straight into the top eight. Pick Szeged will have to fight for the quarter-finals.
