Belgian Anderlecht surprised its followers by putting up for sale as decorative or collectible objects the old floodlights from the Lotto Park stadium in Brussels, removed to be replaced by more efficient LED lights and now offered for 100 euros per unit (or 1,839.44 Mexican pesos, at current exchange rate).

“Those lamps have been here for more than 25 years, so they have witnessed many important matches in our history,” explained the club’s communications manager, Mathias Declerc.

Some fans, however, have been surprised by the commercial initiative of the historic club from the capital.

“I am a Sporting Anderlecht fan, but the lamps don’t mean anything to me. I don’t know what can be done with a spotlight that has been on the stands, and on which the pigeons have relieved themselves,” commented a follower named Marco.

Nor would the owner of the establishment (a bar near the stadium), Carlos Da Silva, know what to do with one of those relics.

“If I had a big castle, maybe I would buy one to light it. But I don’t have a castle,” she noted.

In any case, the club specified that, although the lamps still work, they are “mainly intended for decoration or collection”, since “they have not been designed to connect to a residential electrical network like the one in your home.”

As reported by Anderlecht in a statement, The first hundred units were sold out in just an hour and a half., so the collection would be regarding 10 thousand euros. But a waiting list has been set up in case more units appear that can be put up for sale.
