French Embassy in Guatemala awards Jayro Bustamante with the National Order of Merit in the rank of Knight – 2024-03-09 21:20:15

Guatemalan filmmaker Jayro Bustamante continues to achieve success due to his talent, work and perseverance in the film scene.

Last Thursday, March 7, the creator of films like The Ixcan (2015), Tremors (2019), y The Llorona (2019), was decorated by the French Republic due to her contributions to art in general.

The French Ambassador in Guatemala, Odile Roussel, presented Bustamante, on behalf of the French Republic, with the National Order of Merit of France, in the rank of Knight, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the art of cinematography. and its commitment to promoting culture internationally.

The residence of the Ambassador in the country was the venue where the award ceremony was held privately, in which family members and a small group of guests of the national film director participated.

According to the entity, The National Order of Merit is the second highest decoration awarded by the Government of France to people who have distinguished themselves in various fields, including art, science, literature and industry.

That recognition was instituted in 1963 by President Charles de Gaulle with the aim of recognizing the outstanding achievements and services of both French citizens and foreigners.

According to an official report from the French Embassy in Guatemala, Roussel highlighted Bustamante’s career and recalled that the French Residence was a place where a good part of The Lloronaa film with which the Guatemalan filmmaker obtained multiple awards.
