Since the beginning of March, the new fuel prices in Cuba came into force, as well as the new electricity rate for high consumers. So many will be able to benefit from these discounts in case the monthly current payment exceeds their options.
Discounts for paying for electricity in Cuba this March
The new price of electricity in Cuba establishes a 25% increase for kilowatt hours (kWh) that exceed 500 kWh consumed per month. In other words, if a customer consumes 513 kWh, the 25% surcharge will only be applied to the 13 kWh that exceeds the 500 kWh limit. The rest of the consumption, that is, the first 500 kWh, will be charged according to the current graduated rate of the Electric Company.
According to officials, this measure is applied to encourage high consumers to save, although they confess that many of them commit electricity fraud to pay less than they should.
“We know that in the world this is a tremendous pressure on families, who have to save energy because it is a high cost. We also have to encourage this savings with certain measures,” said the deposed former Minister of Economy, Alejandro Gil, at the time.
