Update (resolved) – Facebook is down: everything you need to know

Update: Meta has restarted the machines, the outage affecting the Facebook and Messenger services is no longer relevant. Do not hesitate to follow us on the networks, Twitter, Facebooks or even Blueskyand/or to install our i-nfo.fr application on your iPhone and activate notifications to be quickly notified of this type of event (and of returns to normal).

Facebook is no longer working at the moment. It seems that the app is affected, but so is the platform’s website. If you encountered a problem today, the cause is obvious.

There is currently no solution to remedy this incident. Patience therefore remains essential. If Meta releases a patch, we will of course keep you informed. In general, it doesn’t take very long for Mark Zuckerberg’s firm to react. Especially when the problem affects several countries at the same time.

If you want to follow the situation in real time, there is a dedicated link. On the Meta status pagewe can thus know if our different apps are functional or us.

The breakdown in detail

If you want to know more regarding the Facebook outage, you can also go to the Facebook website Downdetector. This is a specialized site that lists bugs occurring on the most popular sites, such as social networks or mobile phone operators. Simply check the graph that appears for Facebook, and if you still see abnormal activity, the problem is not resolved at this time.

To resolve the bug, it’s a safe bet that the Facebook team is already hard at work. The platform is still used by more than two billion people every month, all around the globe. Engineers are therefore dedicated to fixing bugs, as in every company of this size, usually.

What are the causes of this failure?

Most often, outages experienced by Facebook and other social networks are due to errors in the source code. The developers then just need to reread it to find what is wrong.

But sometimes hackers cause interruptions. These malicious Internet users are particularly fond of the personal data that we store on our private profiles. Facebook is not the only one to pay the price: iCloud, Twitter and Pinterest have encountered the same mishaps.

Don’t panic, though: most of the time, the guardrails in our apps do the job just fine. But the procedure may take some time.

For its part, Meta has also not confirmed knowing the source of our outage. The group had already had to resolve a technical problem with Facebook in June 2022, to name only this date.

Do not hesitate to follow us on the networks, Twitter, Facebooks or even Blueskyand/or to install our i-nfo.fr application on your iPhone and activate notifications to be quickly notified of this type of event (and of returns to normal).

And bref:

  • Facebook website and app are down
  • There is no fix available at this time
  • The best advice is to be patient, and stay informed on Downdetector
