Initially, Irini Agapidaki spoke regarding her experience with obesity saying that: “Since I was a child, since I can remember I was overweight. At one point in my adult life, I was over 100 kilos. From then on it was very difficult to lose them alone. I used the diets that are for everyone, then chemical diets were in vogue. I tried it 1-2 times didn’t work. I succeeded when I found a nutritionist who pointed me in the right direction.”
He continued: “It’s difficult. You need support and the financial ability. If I had it for free I would have done it sooner. It’s not cheap.”
The minister also added: “Let our country get moving. Let our children play sports. Diet is key, but it’s also regarding activity. 63% of adults in Greece are overweight or obese”.
The Ministry of Health is preparing to launch a corresponding program for adults, offering free health services, with the cooperation of psychologists and nutritionists. The program is expected to start in the second half of the year, aiming for a holistic approach to health.
