Region Stockholm leaves staff position after cyber attack against Sophiahemmet

Last Tuesday, Region Stockholm went into emergency mode following it became known that Sophiahemmet was exposed to a ransomware attack. The attack meant that some healthcare providers at the Sophiahemmet hospital site had to switch to paper procedures and did not have access to the region’s record system.

Now, however, the region has left the staff situation following reconnecting almost all healthcare providers in Sophiahemmet’s hospital area, so that operations can now function as usual, writes Region Stockholm in a press release. There is nothing to indicate business disruptions in the region as a result of the incident.

Läkartidningen reported on Monday that information regarding both Sophiahemmet’s employees and patients was for sale on the darknet, the part of the internet that is anonymous and deliberately difficult to trace. Läkartidningen has been in contact with Sophiahemmet’s press service to ask more regarding the stolen data, but only received the reply that Sophiahemmet is engaged in very intensive analysis and investigation work together with the police and IT security experts and that therefore no comments can be made . On its website, however, Sophiahemmet writes that it is still not known how much information the hacker group has come across.
