ALEX Rins said he mightn’t wait to ride the Yamaha M1 in the opening race of the Qatar MotoGP.
After undergoing pre-season tests in Sepang and Lusail, Alex Rins will make his official MotoGP debut this weekend.
Rins missed last season’s Qatar MotoGP following suffering an injury-filled year with LCR Honda.
Even though he only appeared seven times throughout the season, Rins was still able to achieve victory following leading Honda to victory at COTA.
Now Rins is at Yamaha with 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo. He might also be a dark horse to achieve similar results.
Rins is still competing with Maverick Vinales and Jack Miller to become the first MotoGP rider to win with three different brands.

However, to do this, Rins admits that he still needs to adapt further to the M1 motorbike.
“The new chapter with Yamaha officially starts this weekend. I stayed in Qatar following the test because the weather forecast was not very good where I live, and I wanted to be able to train as much as possible and be in race mode as early as possible,” Rins quoted as saying Crash (7/3).
“I’m very motivated and generally quite curious to see what we can achieve this weekend,” he added.

Meanwhile, M1 Motorbikes are said to have not made the step forward in testing that their racers had hoped for.
Both Rins and Quartararo are happy with the overall package, but it is clear that both were hoping for more as there is still quite a gap to the likes of Ducati, KTM and Aprilia.
Yamaha Team Director, Massimo Meregalli, said that his party had an idea of the results that would be achieved at the Qatar GP later. This is based on the results of previous races.
“While we have a general idea of what the performance level of our competition will be, the races will show how the cards have been dealt this season,” Meregalli said.
“Even though the holiday season is relatively short, we, as MotoGP fans, can’t wait to start the 2024 round. We can’t wait to get back to action,” he added. (Crash/Ndf/Z-7)
