The Provincial Government or DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Water Resources Service (SDA) stated that the flooding that occurred some time ago was partly due to extreme rainfall and the long duration of the rain.
“Based on monitoring data, extreme rainfall reaching 157mm/day occurred in the Kelapa Gading area some time ago,” said Acting Head of the Water Resources (SDA) Service Ika Agustin Ningrum via short message, Thursday (7/4 ).
He also explained that inundation in the Kelapa Gading area, North Jakarta was also caused by rain with a long duration, namely 11-13 hours.
Ika said the long duration of rain causes high water discharge at the same time, thereby exceeding the existing drainage capacity.
Therefore, Ika mobilized his staff to minimize flooding, one of which was dredging drainage.
“This is to keep the channel working optimally. The DKI SDA Department is also alerting mobile pumps and task force personnel to speed up handling directly to the point where the flooding occurs,” he concluded.
Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted that the weather in most areas of Jakarta would be sunny and cloudy on Thursday (7/3) morning.
“Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, West Jakarta and Seribu Islands Regency are predicted to experience sunny and cloudy weather conditions,” wrote BMKG on its official website. (Far/Z-7)
