7 PPA FOR THE REALIZATION OF A NEW SOLAR PROJECT WITH BATTERY STORAGE SYSTEM IN CHILE
SANTIAGO, Chile, March 6, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Atlas Renewable Energy, an international leader in renewable energy, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Codelco, Chile’s state-owned mining company and the world’s largest copper producer, for the supply of 375 GWh of energy per year to be generated 24/7 by a new renewable energy project in Chile with an integrated battery storage system.
With this PPA, Atlas will supply nearly 375 GWh/year to Codelco, the world’s largest copper producer, for 15 years. Atlas will develop, build and operate a new renewable energy project with an integrated battery storage system in Chile.
The PPA, which includes advanced technologies such as the use of batteries, was signed following a public tender by Codelco, which won Atlas and will provide clean, renewable energy for the next 15 years starting in 2026.
Atlas’ pioneering commitment to Chile and the region aims to improve the stability and reliability of electricity supply. This project, leveraging cutting-edge technology and solar energy know-how, represents a breakthrough for Chile and the region’s energy supply contracts. It also strengthens Atlas’ ongoing efforts to provide clean energy to the region’s large-scale consumers through competitive solutions.
“Formalizing this PPA with Codelco, a globally recognized institution in the mining industry, underscores Atlas Renewable Energy’s commitment to developing innovative energy solutions tailored to the needs of our customers. With this project, we formally announce our entry into battery storage technology . We see this as an essential element to significantly increase the share of renewable energies in the electricity system and to offer our customers a broader range of energy solutions. We are determined to be the preferred partner for large companies that want to complete the energy transition. In order to do this “We will strive to continue to innovate and find ways to better meet our customers’ needs,” said Carlos Barrera, CEO of Atlas Renewable Energy.
This agreement demonstrates Codelco’s confidence in Atlas and leverages its proven track record in providing clean energy to the mining sector. Atlas successfully built the Javiera solar plant in 2015, supplying 161 GWh annually to a major Chilean mine, and the Lar do Sol solar plant in 2023, supplying 540 GWh annually to Anglo American in Brazil.
