“Growing up, I was always looking for someone to make me feel loved,” she confessed. “I was the middle child, not the baby, not the firstborn… you just kind of get lost in the middle of it all,” the “Hustlers” actress, 54, continued, referring to her sisters Leslie, 56, and Linda, 52.
The pop star also opened up regarding her parents, Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez, who divorced in the 90s. “I felt very neglected by my father because he always worked nights, then slept all day and I didn’t feel like I had enough of a relationship with him,” she said.
“My mom was narcissistic, the center of attention, the life of the party,” Lopez added. The songwriter previously addressed her rocky relationship with her mother in the 2022 Netflix documentary Halftime.
“My mom is a very complicated woman and carries a lot of baggage, she wanted us to be independent and never rely on a man,” Lopez explained. “She did what she had to do to survive, and that made her strong, but it also made her tough,” she continued. Mother and daughter also took “a break” when Lopez defied her mom’s wishes by opting out of college
“I wanted to try dance full time… I started sleeping on the couch in the dance studio. I was homeless, but I told her, ‘This is what I want to do,'” she recalls. Lopez is now on good terms with both her parents and even shared an Instagram post for Father’s Day last year.
“Daddy, I love you,” she wrote, to which he replied: “Thank you sweetie, I love you more.” The ‘On The Floor’ singer remarried her beau Ben Affleck in Las Vegas in July 2022, and shortly following in Georgia. Their wedding came two decades following they were first engaged in the early 2000s.
