Thanks to an excellent Kaj Sierhuis, Fortuna Sittard achieved the biggest victory of the season once morest Excelsior: 5-2. Sierhuis scored a hat trick before halftime and provided two assists with goals from Justin Lonwijk and Rodrigo Guth.
Fortuna now has 30 points due to the victory, but remains eleventh. That is nine points more than Excelsior, which is fifteenth. It was the sixth home win of the season for the Limburgers of coach Danny Buijs.
Sierhuis enabled Lonwijk to open the score in the thirteenth minute. He did that with a beautiful movement. Shortly followingwards, Lonwijk put the ball back from a corner and Sierhuis was able to head it in. Fifteen minutes later, the attacker headed in his second on a pass from Guth and five minutes later he completed his hat trick with a beautiful volley and his ninth competition goal of this season. It was Fortuna’s first hat trick since Mark Diemers once morest VVV in October 2019.
After the break, Derensili Sanches Fernandes did something in return for the Rotterdam team of coach Marinus Dijkhuizen. Sierhuis then enabled Guth to also score his goal. Substitute Richie Omorowa set the final score at 5-2. Shortly followingwards, Sierhuis received his public substitution.
