The State Workers Association (ATE) in Río Negro is preparing to define his position regarding the call by Rodolfo Aguiar, general secretary of the union at the national level, to demonstrate next week in rejection of Milei’s criticism of unionism. Rodrigo Vicente, general secretary of ATE Río Negro, announced that the bases consider “the current salary proposal to be insufficient”, generating expectations regarding the decisions that will be made in the plenary session.
«We have a plenary session tomorrow (for today) in the morning. From the beginning we already know that it is insufficient and the salary continues to become precarious. We will see tomorrow what mandate is brought from the bases.”responded Vicente, when asked by Diario RÍO NEGRO.
In the national context, Rodolfo Aguiar, general secretary of ATE Nacional, announced a new strike in rejection of the “stigmatization campaign” towards unions by the national government. This announcement added to the criticism that Javier Milei used during the opening of sessions of Congress, generating tensions in the union sphere.
In this sense, the ATE proposal seeks to join the Front of State Unions and State Companies to coordinate a national day of protests during the week of March 11. Aguiar assured that: “in times of crisis, it is the State that must provide support,” thus responding to Milei’s questions.
«The State is not a criminal organization. Criminals are the 4 or 5 living people who do business with the State, and the economic groups that plunder all our natural resources. It is these negotiations that the Government wants to perfect«said the head of ATE Nacional.
Furthermore, Aguiar criticized Milei’s proposals to reform elections in unions, highlighting that in ATE authorities are already elected directly and democratically through the secret vote of workers. He stressed that the modifications, such as the end to indefinite re-elections and gender parity, have already been part of the union’s internal rules for more than a year.
«What he proposes as something new, which is the end of indefinite re-elections, It is already part of our internal rules since the modification of our statute more than a year ago. We also decided that all lists must have gender parity«, he concluded.
The uncertainty regarding ATE Río Negro’s position regarding the call to demonstrate next week generates expectations among public sector workers in the province. The decision made in the plenary session will be crucial in the context of union tensions and criticism of unionism by figures like Milei, in the midst of the joint disputes with the government of Alberto Weretilneck.
