Starting April 1, the prices for obtaining American citizenship will increase, according to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The rate increase will affect 9 million eligible legal residents, according to official data from the Office of Homeland Security Statistics.
The cost to file a Naturalization Application form (N-400) will increase from $640.00 USD to $710.00 USD. Meanwhile, the total price to submit the necessary forms and opt for permanent legal residence (Green Card package) will rise from $1,760 USD to $3,005 USD.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) explained that “USCIS conducted a comprehensive biennial review of fees. The office determined that current fees do not recover the full cost of providing adjudication and naturalization services. “DHS is adjusting the fee schedule to maintain adequate service.”
