Twenty-five associations of chronically ill people expressed their concern, Monday March 4, regarding safeguarding the current system for the management of long-term illnesses (ALD). They expressed concern, following government declarations, by the risk of “dismantling” aiming, according to them, to “seek money from patients’ pockets”.

They refuse the savings made “in patients’ pockets”. Twenty-five associations of chronically ill people are concerned, Monday March 4, regarding the risk of “dismantling” the management of long-term conditions (ALD). A fear that has arisen since the Minister for Health, Frédéric Valletoux, said he wanted “think regarding relevance” of the current ALD support system, which represents “two thirds of reimbursements” of Health Insurance.

“It is not a question of making savings on ALD. (…) On the other hand, it is a question of reviewing the relevance” and “the architecture of a very old system when we know medical progress” in the treatment of pathologies, he indicated, Sunday March 3, in the show “Political questions” on France Inter, franceinfo and The worldevoking a list of ALD which “dates from the 1980s”.

ALD patients, that is to say those suffering from chronic pathologies registered on a dedicated list (cancer, diabetes, heart failure, Alzheimer’s disease, etc.), benefit from 100% care by the Social security for their care linked to this illness, within the limits of the ceilings provided.

“We refuse to be designated by popular vindictiveness”

“ALD is one of the key mechanisms of our solidarity health system, which allows all people requiring prolonged and particularly expensive treatment to access care”recall in an open letter, 25 patient associations including RoseUp (cancer), Renaloo (kidney diseases), or the French Association of Hemophiliacs. “We cannot watch the threat of dismantling this building without reacting.”

“We refuse to be designated by popular vindictiveness as responsible for the deficits of the health system, to apologize for being more and more numerous”they wrote to the Minister for Health. “It is not in the pockets of patients (…) that we should look for this money.”

Measures aimed at increasing the remainder payable by patients “multiply”like the doubling of medical deductibles, they criticize, regretting a “ambient speech” Who “suggests that some patients are abusing the system with the help of complacent doctors”.

However, the remaining average charge in ALD “is almost twice as high as that of the rest of the population“, they emphasize, and chronically ill people must “frequently stop or reduce their professional activity”just like certain caregivers, plunging certain families into precariousness.
