Several hundred minor girls extorted – man goes to prison

On Friday, a verdict was reached in an extensive case of digital violations.

Here, a 32-year-old man from Vendsyssel received a three-year conditional sentence at the Court in Hjørring.

The 32-year-old man had contacted several underage girls in a period between April 2021 and December 2022 via the social media Snapchat – the vast majority under the age of 15.

He was convicted of contacting 16 underage girls and blackmailing them into sending him sexual images and videos. He subsequently used the material to blackmail the girls into sending more images and videos of a more sexual nature by threatening to publish the images – other times he lured them with payment.

The man was further convicted of attempting to complicity in forcing a 14-year-old girl to sexually assault a 4-year-old girl, but it was not successful as the girl refused.

He was also originally charged with contacting a further 1039 girls.

The 32-year-old man was convicted of attempted indecent assault and attempted possession of child pornography in the cases involving 572 underage girls out of the 1,039 for which he was originally charged.

In other words, more than half of the underage girls whom the man tried to blackmail, but all of whom broke off contact.

Can’t remember the number

In court, the 32-year-old man pleaded not guilty.

During the trial, he explained that he might not remember contacting the 16 abused girls and the total of 1039 girls who broke off contact with the man.

On the other hand, he might well remember why he started writing to the girls via Snapchat. It was immediately following a long-term relationship ended in the summer of 2020.

– It was during a period when I worked really hard. I was very lonely and wanted someone to talk to, he explained in court.

The man had also explained in court that he remembers contacting between 10 and 20 girls via Snapchat.

The prosecution used the digital footprint that the man had left on Snapchat and explanations from the many underage girls.

The court in Hjørring found this credible, and emphasized this when the 32-year-old man was sentenced.

Desired reflection period

According to senior prosecutor Mette Bendix, the prosecution is satisfied with the sentence of three years in prison for the numerous extortions, possession of child pornographic content, illegal coercion and attempted violations of the minor girls.

– We are satisfied that the court has followed our request.

– Both in relation to the verdict, but also in relation to the length of the sentence showing that the case is of a serious nature, says Mette Bendix.

The 32-year-old man wanted time to think regarding whether he wanted to appeal or accept the sentence.
