Residents of a large brand in Dampremy are unhappy. The store’s parking lot is regularly the meeting point for urban rodeo enthusiasts. Illegal races which cause significant nuisance. This weekend, the tires heated up so much that they set off the establishment’s fire alarm.
“The police are passing by, but Charleroi is crap now. It’s decided, I’m leaving”says a resident of Dampremy.
Last Friday, around twenty vehicles met once more for an illegal race in a store parking lot and surrounding streets.
“It’s not happy. Sometimes we hear that the police are trying to catch them. They are hiding in the streets… It’s every weekend”regrets a local resident.
Residents say they can no longer sleep properly on weekends. “In this Decathlon parking lot, there are tuning machines, hand brakes, etc. It resonates and makes a lot of noise”said another person.
The Charleroi police are well aware of the phenomenon, which has been going on for years here and elsewhere. On Friday alone, the teams had to intervene three times.
“We systematically draw up reports for all driving infractions observed, and I can tell you that there are some. And sometimes, there are even accidents. They manage to break their cars, which is a good ultimately, as long as they don’t hurt anyone.”indicates David Quinaux, spokesperson for the Charleroi police zone.
Long-term work is underway. The teams constantly monitor social networks, and police officers are sent in plain clothes to the meeting points.
