UMA (Kagami) from Taiwan Wins Capcom Cup X Championship: Exclusive Interview and Post-Game Thoughts

UMA (Kagami) from Taiwan advanced all the way to the championship as an amateur in the Capcom Cup X finals on February 27, winning a prize of US$1 million (approximately NT$31.57 million). Kagami took the time to be interviewed by 4Gamers to share his post-game thoughts and a bit of greasy talk.

Kagami was a well-known player in Taiwan’s Kombat player community during the “Kombat Tornado 5” era. Whether it was a community-organized event or a large-scale CPT event, Kagami might be seen.

By the time “Quick Fighter 6” was officially launched, while most players were still getting used to the new system, Kagami had already achieved good results in RANK/offline competitions. Representatives from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao will compete in the Capcom Cup, the finale event of CPT.

Kagami, who promised to “wear Ogami Mio’s hat and T-shirt when reaching the top 16”, attracted the attention of “Quick Fighter 6” players and hololive fans. Even though the famous Japanese player gachikun fell into third place, there are still many Japanese fans. Cheer for Kagami in the championship match.

After the game, Ogami Mio, Shishiro Mudan, and Shirakami Fubuki posted tweets to congratulate Kagami for winning the championship. (Kagami also responded personally)

At 2:55:43, Shishiro mentioned that Kagami attracted the attention of the hololive audience at the Capcom Cup. The audience even called him “UMAしゃ” (Uma香)

At 6:54, Shibai also found out that Kagami declined Red Bull Kumite 2024 because it was his birthday and he wanted to go to the Hololive 5th Fes in mid-March.

Exclusive interview

When was the first time you went abroad to participate in the offline competition of “Quick Fighting Tornado”? Did anything memorable happen at that time?

K:The time is a bit long ago, I can’t remember clearly, it was probably Vietnam in 2016 or 2017. What impressed me most was that the Taiwanese players who went there with us had their phones snatched away by speeding cars. Later one year, other Taiwanese players went out to compete and had their phones stolen once more. It felt quite dangerous.

What’s your motivation for wanting to challenge the first Ka Cup of Kombat 6, and what do you think your possible advantages are in the CPT?

K:The motivation is one million US dollars, and I want to graduate in one year. My advantage is that I am good at development, so I think I have a good chance in the first year of playing the game.

How do you prepare for the game following confirming that you have obtained the Ka Cup tickets?

K:When you get the tickets, the quotas for each country are basically determined, so you can make countermeasures for the roles that have been determined.

Who do you think is the toughest opponent in the Ka Cup?

K:If you have met, it will be the final opponent Chris Wong, but you have not met the Chinese player DCQ.

How to plan your championship bonus

K:U.S. dollar fixed deposits, ETFs.

Assuming that a manufacturer is willing to sponsor or invite you to join the team, what is your first consideration?

K:See if there is a lot to do, if there is a lot of money, and if the conditions are good enough, then consider it.

Although it’s currently unclear whether there will be a championship skin, what would your ideal Juri championship skin look like?

K:Showing the lower abdomen + shorts + a bit of a two-dimensional hot girl element.

What do you think of Taiwan’s fighting community?

K:It’s very good. If you have any questions, many people are willing to help.

What methods do you usually use to get back into the rhythm of the game or relieve tension?

K:Hypnosis yourself at home.

An opponent who wants to compete with him? (No restrictions on nationality/whether you have participated in this Ka Cup)

K:Maybe it’s the five-stock oil king, which seems to be rare in this year’s competition.

In addition to hololive, will you watch VTuber from other platforms?

K:I do when I have free time, but I rarely watch it when I’m busy preparing for competitions, but I’ll watch it later.

240304-cpt-04

The first VTuber I remember watching?

K:Personal VTuber Kagura Mea.

What type of live broadcast do you usually prefer to watch on VTuber?

K:Chat, song, linkage, Live.

Kagami is confirmed to play at EVO JAPAN, which will be held from April 27th to 29th. Whether you are an old Kombat player, a new player who got into Kombat Tornado 6, or an audience who started to understand the Kombat game following Kagami won the championship, we all hope to continue to pay attention to and support Taiwan’s fighting game community!
