Her Sunday the 17th Martio a street band with Afro-Brazilian percussion and a rock’n’roll band stir up Stavros Niarchos Park with their rhythms, while the Green Monday March 18 SNFCC welcomes Lent with a spring mood, a traditional feast with songs and dances from the Greek musical tradition and, of course, the traditional flying of the kite.
The events on Sunday March 17 and Clean Monday are taking place with free entry thanks to the donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Sunday, March 17
Jaguar Bombs and Block Swingueira
12.00-15.00, Light
On Sunday, March 17, a celebration is set up in Stavros Niarchos Park! Live music, percussion parade, workshops, masquerades, fun and imagination set the tone for a Sunday unlike any other! The beloved multicultural percussion band Bloco Swingueira brings, as every year, its explosive energy and Brazilian rhythms to various parts of Stavros Niarchos Park, while the Jaguar Bombs set up the wildest celebration by covering timeless hits.

What can the Sonics have in common with 5ive and Elvis with the Offspring? The Jaguar Bombs mix a dynamic rock ‘n’ roll rhythm with pop melodies from previous decades and come to the Clearing of Stavros Niarchos Park! Presenting a program characterized by a rockabilly, surf and garage rock aesthetic with references to teenage pop anthems and other musical guilty pleasures, the Jaguar Bombs cover timeless hits that everyone has sung along to, as well as songs that dressed up teenage parties.

Swingueira Block
Outgoing and exuberant, Bloco Swingueira is a percussion band formed in 2014. Their every show evokes a Brazilian carnival, with samba afro and samba reggae rhythms that get the crowd going. In addition to their dozens of live performances, they organize percussion classes, as well as seminars with renowned teachers from Brazil.

A funny interactive installation, starring three anthropomorphic green sculptures that move freely, awaits the visitors of Stavros Niarchos Park!
Young and old interact with them by placing flower constructions on them.

Inspired by the imaginative creations of visual artist and designer Daniel Palillo, children unleash their imaginations, discover how through the random combination of colors and materials fantastic characters can be created, and, like other pioneering artists, make their own masks to tell their stories. in turn short stories of visual anarchy.

A merry-go-round is set up in Xefoto and is waiting for adults and children to spin to the rhythm of the music. With the help of choreographer Haritina Galanopoulou, the participants are inspired by classical choreography and create new dance patterns based on modern dance.

Clean Monday, March 18
12.00-15.00, Light
From 12.00 to 15.00, the professor of ethnomusicology Lampros Liavas curates and presents a panorama of the Greek music and dance tradition at the Stavros Niarchos Park Clearing.
Knowing as few people the codes of traditional music, through studies, academic papers but also trekking in every corner of Greece, Lambros Liavas invites young and old to celebrate the Carnival and welcome Lent in the traditional way.
Carnival mime dances are mixed with kalamatianas, kangelias and chamikas, Epirotian pogonisia, Macedonian syrta, Thracian zonaradikas, civil butchers, Smyrnaian karsilamades, Cretan pentozalia and island balls.
The tone is set by the traditional brass instruments from the famous “Band of Florina of the Balkani brothers”, as well as the dynamic musical group “Eptasimos” with Ilias Gakos and Marianthi Liudakis on vocals.
The Pontian lyre player Ilias Yfantidis and the Cretan lyre player Manolis Bundalakis and his company take part in the celebration. The dance group of the Pontian Association “Argonauts of Komnenos” (edited by: Costas Savvinidis), invites all visitors to participate in the dance circles!

On a large surface of paper, young and old capture the sky full of kites. Colors, shapes, stamps and stencils help to create a unique collective painting inspired by the octagonal kite of the artist Opis Zounis.
