The president of FIBAAfrica, Aníbal Manave, will travel to Angola in March, as part of the 31st edition of the African Men’s Senior Basketball Championship “Afrobasket”, in August 2025.
According to the president of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), Moniz Silva, the arrival of the Mozambican official aims to sign the contract.
Scheduled for last February, the trip to the country by the leader of the body that governs basketball on the African continent was postponed to next month due to the change of minister, with Palmira Barbosa being replaced by Rui Falcão.
The FAB leader stated that the administrative part that was the responsibility of the federation had already been completed, with the other part being the responsibility of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, representing the Government.
Without mentioning the specifications, Moniz Silva simply said that the objective of the candidacy, in addition to redeeming the continental title, also falls within the festivities of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, to be celebrated on November 11th.
This is the fourth time that Angola will host an edition of the men’s senior Afrobasket, seventeen years later, in 2007, in the first rehearsal in which the competition took place in more than one city besides Luanda, Cabinda, Benguela, Huambo and Huíla.
Angola hosted the African basket ball competition for the first time in 1989 and then in 1999. The National Team has eleven continental titles, the first being won in 1989, in Luanda, with coach Victorino Cunha, and the last in 2013, in Cote d’Ivoire.
