[미디어파인=이상원 기자] NASA discovered a very fast black hole floating through space. A supermassive black hole is rapidly crossing the universe. If such a black hole were in the solar system, it would travel from the Earth to the Moon at a speed of regarding 14 minutes. This black hole, which has a mass 20 million times that of the Sun, left its mark 200,000 light-years away, twice the diameter of the Milky Way. Surprisingly, scientists also observed the formation of new stars in the black hole’s tracks.
Most people probably imagine a black hole eating the surrounding stars. But this analysis using the Hubble Space Telescope found that this is not the case for the black hole. Instead, this black hole, located 7.5 billion light years from Earth, was triggering the formation of stars in the gas. The Hubble telescope image shows the black hole’s center at one end, where light from star formation sparked back out.
At the outermost tip of the black hole is a “visibly bright knot of ionized oxygen,” which researchers say may be the result of intense heat from the black hole’s motion. The shock occurs because the gas in front of the black hole moves at supersonic speed. Of course, exactly how this phenomenon occurs is still being studied.
Researchers speculate that this phenomenon occurred when a total of three black holes merged. After the two galaxies merged regarding 50 million years ago, the supermassive black hole at the center escaped the galaxy. Afterwards, the so-called great chaos occurred in which the third galaxy was mixed. According to experts, the accelerated black hole jumped in one direction, causing the remaining two black holes to shoot in another direction. Now scientists plan to use NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to further study and identify these black holes.
