O Google Drive received a Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) video transcoding generation and playback feature for all new videos uploaded to the platform. The new feature promises to speed up the loading of content.

According to Google, DASH transcodes provide adaptive bitrate playback, which allows users to receive higher or lower resolution playback based on things like local network quality.

The company also highlighted that the new feature will provide improvements in the joining time (the period it takes from clicking play to starting playback) and a reduction in re-buffering, both in normal playback and at higher speeds.

According to Google, although this feature applies to all new videos uploaded to Drive, content already uploaded to the platform will be updated by the end of the year for all users of the company’s cloud storage service.

Uploading videos to Google Drive is very easy, but content reproduction is not at the same level as another company service, the YouTubeeven though the video player looks a lot like the most used video platform in the world.

Now, the team responsible for Google Drive hopes to resolve this platform issue. In addition, improvements were announced in the service’s in-app search, initially on iOS devices, reaching Android later.
