Automation company ABB has become a member of the Euromines association of European mining and metallurgical companies. The Swiss-based organization will have a seat on the entity’s regulatory affairs, sustainability and communications committees.
According to the company, the expectation is to contribute to the improvement of European mining regulatory frameworks, in order to make the activity more sustainable and responsible.
“We look forward to participating, offering our ideas on good practices and technologies that can effectively contribute to more sustainable mining,” said Joachim Braun, president of ABB’s Process Industries division, in a statement.
The executive also hopes to contribute to the creation of a regulatory environment that is more favorable to the development of the innovations necessary for the mining decarbonization journey. For him, mineral production remains essential to different economic sectors in Europe and the world. Braun also believes that mining remains essential for the European continent to achieve its climate goals and maintain its industrial autonomy.
Euromines works to disseminate responsible practices, studies the impact of new regulations on the sector, defines positions on regulatory proposals and represents associates in regulatory processes. The entity also maintains the Sustainable Mining Initiative, in which members share ideas regarding the circular economy, environmental regeneration and decarbonization.
