The “bazoma” of the area where the deadly tragedy occurred in Tempe is controlled by the appellant investigator who conducts the investigations into the perpetrators of the national tragedy. It causes intense political confrontation with the government clarifying how the protocols were activated by the relevant operational actors.
The deputy minister in addition to the prime minister, at that time, Christos Triandopoulos emphasized that he did not give a relevant order, while the official opposition is trying to raise the issue of a cover-up, which the government representative categorically denied.
In Tempi, human errors collided with years-old pathologies of the Greek public administration and especially of the railways, the Prime Minister pointed out, clarifying that the independent judiciary will shed light on the case, assigning responsibility to those responsible.
“There was no more difficult moment than Tempe. (…) Justice can give the final answers for assigning responsibilities. (…) He has a heavy responsibility and I believe he will rise to the occasion. (…) The political instrumentalization of this tragedy is infuriating. (…) We had other tragedies. I did not think of using them as a tool for temporary party benefits. (…) Let’s let Justice do its job and trust it.”
The matter continues to trigger the reactions of the opposition, which speaks of a cover-up of responsibilities but also of “bashing” at the site of the fatal accident. It is grave digging to make policy on people’s pain, the government replies.
“Everything in the light, everything must be investigated by justice. She is doing her job with her independent role but must be done away from crowns of populism. (…) Mr. Kasselakis and many others are waiting for a tragic event and a crisis in order to make a career”, says Pavlos Marinakis.
Stefanos Kasselakis fires at Kyriakos Mitsotakis. No matter how much the government “bases” the investigations, in the end justice will be served, he declares.
“Let’s see what exactly has happened, why is it protecting the Mitsotakis fireplace, the Karamanli fireplace. (…) There is political responsibility for this crime and no one has taken it. (…) Mr. Mitsotakis was the first to draw a conclusion. (…) After one apology he mightn’t say and now he’s coming back” the president of SYRIZA notes, among other things.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Triandopoulos, states that he never gave the order for the reclamation of the area where the tragic accident of Tempe took place.
“I didn’t give orders for anything. I had no such role. I did not participate in meetings of the Coordinating Body. I was and always am clear that I was there to help those who were in a difficult situation.”
Milena Apostolaki described the file sent by the Larissa investigator to the Parliament’s Inquiry Committee as incomplete.
The PASOK-KINAL MP reports: “From the first moment of the work of the Commission of Inquiry, the presidium had one direction: the truth will be covered up.”
“There is a cover-up, it is proved by the closing of the Investigation before the case file comes to the Parliament” declares the parliamentary representative of the KKE, Nikos Karathanasopoulos.
The president of Hellenic Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos says: “When you don’t have empathy, when you don’t have feelings and emotions for the Greek people, that’s what you say. Because political stupidity triumphs.”
The president of the New Left Parliamentary Group, Alexis Haritsis, underlines that “instead of Mitsotakis taking a spotlight, as he told us, he took a carpet to hide the responsibilities”.
The members of the Investigative Committee are aware of the content of the case file from March 1st, in order to evaluate the evidence and decide whether and which part of it they will include in their conclusion being drawn up.
