In an increasingly globalized world, Peruvians have the ease of traveling to various South American countries simply by presenting their national identity document (DNI) or passport. Nations that offer this advantage include Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. However, there is a country in the region that requires a visa to enter its territory. It’s regarding Venezuela.
It is important to highlight that there is a good diplomatic relationship between Peru and Venezuela. An example of this is that in recent years, our country has experienced a significant migratory wave of Venezuelan citizens, motivated mainly by the economic, political and social crisis caused by its president Nicolás Maduro. Since approximately 2015, thousands of Venezuelans have crossed borders in search of better opportunities and a more stable quality of life.
Why does Venezuela require a visa for Peruvians?
This measure, which came into effect on July 15, 2019, responds to the principle of reciprocity that the Venezuelan Government applied in response to the decision of then-president Martín Vizcarra to request a visa and passport from all citizens of said country who want to enter the national territory. As stated at the time, the objective of this provision was to guarantee orderly migration.

“Yes, we open our arms, as Peru has always done, but now we have and we are going to be rigorous in the control of the people who enter,” stressed Vizcarra Cornejo.
How to process the Venezuelan visa from Peru?
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, these are the documents that all Peruvians must present at the embassy so that they can be granted a tourist visa:

- Photocopy of the round-trip ticket or departure from Venezuela

This type of visa is granted to foreigners who want to enter Venezuela for the purposes of recreation or leisure, health, or activities that do not involve remuneration or profit.
Which South American countries can Peruvians enter only with a DNI?

This benefit also extends to South American countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile and Uruguay, thanks to bilateral agreements that seek to promote tourism and streamline immigration procedures between these nations.
